St. Patrick’s Day is a big day for bars. In fact, the world consumes 13 million pints of Guinness on an average St. Patrick’s Day. Bar managers know that the St. Patrick’s Day crowd can bring in a lot of revenue. If you are not properly prepared for the rush, however, the day can quickly turn into a nightmare. It takes only one bad experience at a bar to cause customers to leave and never come back. With this in mind, it is important to be prepared to provide an excellent experience for each customer, no matter how busy your bar gets. Below, you’ll find a list of some steps you can take to prepare for the big day.

  1. Load your Schedule
For St. Patrick’s Day, always air on the side of caution when it comes to staffing. You should staff more employees than you think you will need. By doing so, you will be prepared for the possibility that a member of your team may call in sick or that you will be far busier than you expected.
  2. Keep it Simple
If you know your bar will be swamped on St. Patrick’s Day, you may want to limit your cocktail offerings. If, for example, you typically serve a warm cocktail that takes several minutes to prepare, consider taking it off of your menu temporarily. In it’s place, you could offer a special St. Patrick’s Day cocktail that’s easy to make and festive. Taking simple steps like this can go a long way toward keeping your staff from falling behind.
  3. Embrace the Craziness
Your bar will likely be overwhelmingly crowded on St. Patrick’s Day and your customers will probably not receive their drinks very promptly. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing! By embracing the craziness of the day, you can help your customers to do so as well. Put on some Irish tunes, offer a free half-pint of green beer to every customer, and celebrate together!

At CPS, we understand that St. Patrick’s Day can be overwhelming and stressful for individuals who work in bars. We hope the tips above will help you to make the most of the day. Happy St. Patrick’s Day and good luck!
